Timothy Young – piano solo

Australian pianist Timothy Young brings a captivating and wide-ranging program to the RCM stage, taking audiences from quiet reflection to thrilling showpieces. The evening opens with intimate and atmospheric keyboard works by Girolamo Frescobaldi, followed by the rich colour and dramatic contrasts of Olivier Messiaen. At the heart of the program are highlights from Maurice Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit, shimmering with imagination, alongside the warmth and rhythm of Isaac Albéniz’s Iberia. The concert concludes with the unmistakable energy and sweeping melodies of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

Timothy Young is one of Australia’s most respected pianists, performing regularly at major festivals and with leading orchestras including the Australian World Orchestra and Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. A founding member of Ensemble Liaison and Head of Piano at the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), he is also a dedicated educator, mentoring many of Australia and New Zealand’s finest young musicians. His performances are known for depth, versatility, and communicative warmth. This recital promises an evening of beautiful sound, vivid storytelling, and breathtaking piano artistry.
