Contemporary Vocal Teacher

The successful applicant will have a strong understanding of contemporary vocal styles and techniques and the ability to engage students across a range of ages, abilities and musical interests.

Teaching may include:

● Contemporary popular singing and vocal styles across a range of genres
● Individual and, where appropriate, group vocal tuition
● Contemporary vocal technique, vocal care and healthy vocal production
● Song interpretation specific to different styles e.g. pop, jazz, folk, country, rock and musical theatre
● Stagecraft including microphone technique, stage presence and working with other musicians/backing tracks
● Preparation of students for concerts, performances and auditions
● Preparation of students for relevant examinations, where appropriate
● Supporting students interested in songwriting, events singing and gigs
● Participation in RCM performances, ensembles, workshops and other educational activities

Position Type: Permanent Part-Time Salaried
Teaching Load: Up to 26 hours per teaching week, subject to student demand and timetabling.

Essential Criteria -

Applicants must:

● Have demonstrated experience teaching contemporary voice to students of varying ages and abilities.
● Have strong knowledge of contemporary vocal techniques, repertoire and performance practices.
● Be able to work effectively with children, young people and adult students.
● Have experience working within school or music education environments.
● Be committed to student-centred teaching and the development of individual musical interests and goals.
● Be prepared to work collaboratively as part of a professional teaching team and share knowledge and skills.
● Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
● Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive, professional relationships with parents and carers.
● Hold a current NSW Working with Children Check or current application number.
● Hold a current Australian Driver Licence.

Desirable Criteria -

● Suitable tertiary qualifications in music and/or music education, or equivalent professional experience.
● Professional experience as a contemporary vocalist and/or performing musician.
● Foundational accompaniment skills in piano or guitar.
● Experience performing in contemporary bands, ensembles or live music settings.
● Experience in songwriting, improvisation, recording or music production.
● Experience preparing students for auditions, performances or contemporary music programs.
● Capacity to contribute to RCM concerts, ensembles, workshops and community engagement activities.

Strings Teacher


The Riverina Conservatorium of Music (RCM)

The RCM is the only state government funded music education institution in the Riverina. It is a pre-tertiary institution  and employs over 40 highly qualified staff. Our vision is to provide quality music education and performance that  is accessible to all, enriching lives and building communities within the Riverina. Our aim is to provide  leadership, resources and expertise in order to support a life-long continuum of music education and of music making in Riverina communities. Over 1200 students are currently enrolled over a wide spectrum of  instrumental and vocal programs.  

DUTY STATEMENT 

The RCM is looking for expressions of interest from string players and educators to teach at the RCM.

Permanent Part-Time Salaried (up to 26 hours per teaching week)

Essential Criteria - Applicants must have: 

  • Experience teaching all levels of violin individually and in groups.

  • Be familiar with working within school environments.

  • Hold suitable tertiary qualifications in music and/or music education.

  • Be prepared to work as part of a team and to share knowledge and skills.

  • A current NSW Working with Children Check Number or current Application Number.

  • Hold a NSW or Australian Drivers License.

  • Hold suitable tertiary qualifications in music or education, or have equivalent, demonstrable professional experience.

Desirable Criteria: 

  • Be a professional performer with the capacity to participate in performance as a soloist and/or ensemble musician.
